Who SAYS that???
Men have to do better on calling out misogyny.
TW: There’s a lot of swearing in this post.
I style hair for a major museum every year, often for a few different occasions. I’m well-versed in period hairstyles, and they need women to represent the 1940s-1970s accurately. I love it, and it’s usually a really good time for the employees, too.
Except for the sexist and misogynistic comments during this particular event.
It happens every year to our ladies. Every. Single. Year. It’s uncalled for. It’s gross. And it needs to stop.
Over the years, there have always been nasty comments made to our ladies by men. These are not museum employees. They’re outside participants and guests. It’s difficult to know who is who during these big events. The museum is very much committed to providing a safe environment for its employees, but it’s difficult to root out one asshole in a crowd of thousands. I will address it here, though.
As an example, one of my ladies, dressed as a ‘Rosie’ (Rosie the Riveter), came back in to have her hair done again this morning. I asked about her day on Saturday.
She said that it was great, and that she had managed to avoid any sexist comments until she was walking out for the night. Unfortunately, this is a common thing, the sexist comments. A…
