Loved ones are still around, pay attention.

When someone we love crosses over, we miss them terribly. We want to know if they’re okay, if they’re still around, if they’re with us. Sometimes we ask for a sign, just to see if they’re listening.

People believe different things about what happens when we die. There are those who scoff at the idea of an afterlife, or an afterlife that allows our loved ones to continue to connect with us. But I believe that they are there, that they do communicate with us. Can I prove it? No, after all, they’re not trained puppies, performing on command. I only have my stories, but what has transpired over the course of my life is enough for me.

I’ll never forget the first time I knew for sure that my father was still with me. I was thirteen years old, right smack in the middle of a years-long abusive situation at home. I talked to my dad a lot, never mind that he had died in the months before I was born. I still do. During that time in my life, getting through to him was an obsession.

I had always felt something around me, lots of somethings, actually, but could never put a name to it. I was prompted with really strong pulls, to ask questions that I shouldn’t have formulated as a young child. I said things that freaked my mother out because they were things that he used to say.
